A task-training packet with a worked demonstration, guided practice, independent assessment, feedback, and a follow-up plan.

What to include

  • A needs brief distinguishing the task skill from the resource barrier.
  • An observable objective and four-check assessment checklist.
  • A four-part demonstration script with visible comparisons and final evidence.
  • A guided-practice card, targeted prompt, and corrected response.
  • A scored two-card assessment with reasons and a bounded result.
  • A revised training packet with follow-up evidence, resource action, and two planned recheck cases.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Every required section is present and traceable to the supplied case facts.
  • Decisions separate known facts, assumptions, and unresolved questions.
  • Records, calculations, and instructions agree with each other and the stated rules.
  • The final revision addresses a changed case and explains what someone should do next.

The idea in everyday life

Fictional North Room booking policy: each request needs its ID, date, start/end times, headcount, and whether step-free access is needed. Duration is end time minus start time and must be at most 120 minutes. Birch holds 12 and has steps; Elm holds 20 and has step-free access. Select the smallest available room that meets headcount and access needs. Missing facts go to requester clarification. Excess duration or no suitable available room goes pending to Lee. Only after all checks pass, record the booking ID and matching confirmation. Training resources will include a current policy, room list, availability sheet and two unseen fictional request cards. Four assessment checks apply to each card: complete information; duration handled correctly; capacity/access/availability handled correctly; matching booking evidence or pending reason and owner. Every check must pass on both cards. No speed target is required.

The idea

Conditions plus action plus standard produce an assessable objective.

Write a performance objective — guided practice

Match the objective to observable task evidence.

Use a text editor, a free document editor, or paper. Start from the following fictional records; they reset this lesson even if your earlier answer differed. 1. 1. Name the conditions

List what Sam may use during assessment.

You should see: Policy, room list, availability sheet and two new request cards.

Conditions distinguish job-aid use from memory testing.

  2. 2. Choose the action

Write a verb describing the work product.

You should see: Process each request and record the resulting decision.

An observable action can be checked.

  3. 3. State the standard

Use the four checks and two-card rule.

You should see: All four checks pass on both cards.

A visible standard prevents a vague judgment of understanding.

  4. 4. Align the assessment

Match every check to something in the objective.

You should see: Eight check results, with no critical error averaged away.

The assessment measures the promised capability.

Now change one thing

The assessment changes to three cards, still four checks per card. Enter the number of check results needed.

Your work

What to finish

An observable objective and four-check assessment checklist.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Using “understand bookings” as the only learning objective.

How can I tell I understand it?

Check your result against the worked example, then explain the changed case without using an unstated assumption.

1An objective says “appreciate good filing.” Which replacement can be assessed?
2A task is normally performed with a reference chart. What assessment condition best matches the job?
3Four critical checks are required, but a learner fails one. Can a good average establish readiness under an all-checks rule?
