A task-training packet with a worked demonstration, guided practice, independent assessment, feedback, and a follow-up plan.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • A needs brief distinguishing the task skill from the resource barrier.
  • An observable objective and four-check assessment checklist.
  • A four-part demonstration script with visible comparisons and final evidence.
  • A guided-practice card, targeted prompt, and corrected response.
  • A scored two-card assessment with reasons and a bounded result.
  • A revised training packet with follow-up evidence, resource action, and two planned recheck cases.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Every required section is present and traceable to the supplied case facts.
  • Decisions separate known facts, assumptions, and unresolved questions.
  • Records, calculations, and instructions agree with each other and the stated rules.
  • The final revision addresses a changed case and explains what someone should do next.

The idea in everyday life

Fictional North Room booking policy: each request needs its ID, date, start/end times, headcount, and whether step-free access is needed. Duration is end time minus start time and must be at most 120 minutes. Birch holds 12 and has steps; Elm holds 20 and has step-free access. Select the smallest available room that meets headcount and access needs. Missing facts go to requester clarification. Excess duration or no suitable available room goes pending to Lee. Only after all checks pass, record the booking ID and matching confirmation. Simulated trainee Sam can read requests and has the current policy. In two recorded practice attempts Sam selected a room from headcount only and missed a stated step-free need. In a third attempt Sam correctly asked to check availability but the sample availability sheet was missing. Your task is to design training, not conduct a session with another person.

The idea

Training can improve a skill; it cannot supply a missing work resource.

Diagnose the training need — guided practice

Separate a skill gap from an access or process barrier.

Use a text editor, a free document editor, or paper. Start from the following fictional records; they reset this lesson even if your earlier answer differed. Fictional North Room booking policy: each request needs its ID, date, start/end times, headcount, and whether step-free access is needed. Duration is end time minus start time and must be at most 120 minutes. Birch holds 12 and has steps; Elm holds 20 and has step-free access. In a third attempt Sam correctly asked to check availability but the sample availability sheet was missing. Your task is to design training, not conduct a session with another person.

  1. 1. Define the required result

Write what correct work would produce.

You should see: A suitable available room or a documented pending reason, with matching records.

A training need starts from a work standard.

  2. 2. Classify the repeated error

Compare the two room choices with the policy.

You should see: Sam needs practice checking access as well as capacity.

The record identifies a specific decision skill.

  3. 3. Separate the resource barrier

    Classify the missing availability sheet.

You should see: Provide the current sheet; more explanation alone cannot replace it.

Missing resources can prevent a skilled person from completing work.

  4. 4. Write the training scope

Choose one teachable gap and name the supporting resource.

You should see: Teach the full room-selection check using policy plus availability sheet.

A bounded task supports a realistic short lesson.

Now change one thing

A changed record has four access-check errors and one missing-sheet incident. Enter the count directly demonstrating the access-check skill gap.

Your work

What to finish

A needs brief distinguishing the task skill from the resource barrier.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Assigning more training for a problem caused by missing tools or instructions.

How can I tell I understand it?

Check your result against the worked example, then explain the changed case without using an unstated assumption.

1A worker correctly explains a form but cannot open the required system because access was never granted. What should happen first?
2Three sample attempts skip the same required identification check. Which training target is most specific?
3A task has no agreed rule and two managers give conflicting answers. What is needed before building an answer key?
