A task-training packet with a worked demonstration, guided practice, independent assessment, feedback, and a follow-up plan.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • A needs brief distinguishing the task skill from the resource barrier.
  • An observable objective and four-check assessment checklist.
  • A four-part demonstration script with visible comparisons and final evidence.
  • A guided-practice card, targeted prompt, and corrected response.
  • A scored two-card assessment with reasons and a bounded result.
  • A revised training packet with follow-up evidence, resource action, and two planned recheck cases.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Every required section is present and traceable to the supplied case facts.
  • Decisions separate known facts, assumptions, and unresolved questions.
  • Records, calculations, and instructions agree with each other and the stated rules.
  • The final revision addresses a changed case and explains what someone should do next.

The idea in everyday life

Fictional North Room booking policy: each request needs its ID, date, start/end times, headcount, and whether step-free access is needed. Duration is end time minus start time and must be at most 120 minutes. Birch holds 12 and has steps; Elm holds 20 and has step-free access. Select the smallest available room that meets headcount and access needs. Missing facts go to requester clarification. Excess duration or no suitable available room goes pending to Lee. Only after all checks pass, record the booking ID and matching confirmation. Guided case G1: June 19, 14:00–15:00, 14 attendees, no step-free requirement, both rooms available. Log ends B41; next ID B42. Simulated Sam response: “Birch, because access is not requested.” Sam checked fields and duration correctly but has not recorded a booking. You will mark this supplied response; no partner is needed.

The idea

Useful feedback connects a specific action with its consequence and correction.

Follow along

Plan guided practice and feedback — guided practice

Give feedback that identifies the decision error and prompts another attempt.

Use a text editor, a free document editor, or paper. Start from the following fictional records; they reset this lesson even if your earlier answer differed. Fictional North Room booking policy: each request needs its ID, date, start/end times, headcount, and whether step-free access is needed. 1. 1. Locate the error

Compare the response with both room capacities.

You should see: Birch holds 12, fewer than 14 attendees.

The feedback needs a specific mismatch.

  2. 2. Acknowledge correct checks

Identify the valid work already shown.

You should see: Fields and 60-minute duration were handled correctly.

Specific acknowledgment separates what to retain from what to change.

  3. 3. Write a prompt before the answer

Ask Sam to compare headcount with each room capacity.

You should see: Prompt: Which room can hold all 14 people?

A focused prompt supports reasoning without immediately doing the whole task.

  4. 4. Supply the corrected attempt

Write the expected response and matching evidence after the prompt.

You should see: Elm; B42, June 19, 14:00–15:00; recheck all criteria.

The trainer packet needs an answer and an opportunity to retry.

Now change one thing

Changed G2 requests 16 people; Birch holds 12. Enter the capacity shortfall if Birch is chosen.

Your work

What to finish

A guided-practice card, targeted prompt, and corrected response.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Giving only “wrong” or praising effort without explaining the actual task error.

How can I tell I understand it?

Check your result against the worked example, then explain the changed case without using an unstated assumption.

1A learner sorts a record into folder C when its date rule requires B. Which feedback is useful?
2During guided practice, the trainer supplies every answer before the learner tries. What is missing?
3A trainee corrects one field after feedback. What should the next check do?
