Grade 9: Spanish foundations
Start with a unit whose prerequisites fit. Work through the lessons, use the study guide to review, and try the new cases before continuing.
- Unit 1 · 4 lessons
Spanish Sound and Print Foundations
Written Spanish gives useful clues to sounds and word boundaries. These text tasks introduce a few spelling and stress patterns; they do not evaluate anyone’s accent or listening ability.
Before you begin: Read short English directions; recognize a vowel and a syllable.
- Unit 2 · 4 lessons
First Conversations with Supplied Identities
A short exchange works when the reply addresses the actual question and respects the situation. Use the fictional identities given here; nobody needs to disclose a real name, location or age.
Before you begin: Recognize Spanish paired question marks and read the supplied English glosses.
- Unit 3 · 4 lessons
Build Agreeing Spanish Noun Groups
Articles and adjectives carry grammatical gender and number. Use the supplied noun labels and referents to build complete noun groups; grammatical gender is a property of a word rather than a judgment about a person.
Before you begin: Recognize a noun as a naming word; distinguish one item from several.
- Unit 4 · 4 lessons
Distinguish Identity, Location, State and Existence
Ser, estar and hay organize different claims. Ask what the sentence means and which referent it describes before choosing a form; permanent versus temporary is not a complete rule.
Before you begin: Use simple noun groups and subject labels; distinguish identity from location.
Check what you can explain
The subject test uses additional supplied cases across these units. Its feedback links back to the relevant lessons. Use it to plan practice; a score on these questions is not a school grade or proof of complete subject mastery.
