A fictional payroll file with checked time, gross and net pay, employer cost, reconciliation and a correction packet.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • An approved mock time register.
  • A checked gross-pay register. A gross-to-net register with separate deduction totals.
  • An employer-cost estimate with clearly labeled assumptions.
  • A reconciled payroll handoff with an error log.
  • A complete payroll practice file and documented correction request.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Calculations reconcile to the supplied records, with units and dates labeled.
  • Assumptions and missing information are visible, including the changed scenario.
  • The recommendation follows the evidence and explains an important limitation.
  • The six lesson outputs form a usable handoff that another learner can check.

The idea in everyday life

Fictional Pine Studio weekly payroll: worker A has daily hours 6,6,6,6,6; B has 8,8,8,8,8; C has 8,8,8,8,10. All are adult fictional workers. A and B are approved; C lacks manager approval. Do not use real names or tax IDs. HOLD below means a mock record needs prompt review; it is not permission to withhold earned wages. For covered U.S. work, time an employer permits or knows is being worked can count even without prior authorization. A real reviewer must resolve the record and applicable pay deadline promptly.

The idea

Payroll starts with a complete, checked time record. Missing data is not zero hours. Review an approval gap promptly; it does not erase hours actually worked.

  1. 1. Total hours

    Add each worker’s five days.

    You should see: A 30; B 40; C 42 hours.

    Sum the original entries.

  2. 2. Flag approval

Mark C HOLD and A/B READY.

You should see: One unresolved approval.

Hours and authorization are separate checks.

  3. 3. Resolve

The case manager confirms C’s 10-hour Friday in writing. Record this practice confirmation.

You should see: C becomes READY at 42 hours.

Keep the evidence rather than overwrite history.

  4. 4. Build register

Write worker ID, hours, approval and issue status.

You should see: Three complete records; no invented identity data.

An audit trail explains what changed.

Now change one thing

A separate employee records 7,7,8,6,8 hours. Enter weekly hours.
