See this course’s project requirements

A fictional payroll file with checked time, gross and net pay, employer cost, reconciliation and a correction packet.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • An approved mock time register.
  • A checked gross-pay register. A gross-to-net register with separate deduction totals.
  • An employer-cost estimate with clearly labeled assumptions.
  • A reconciled payroll handoff with an error log.
  • A complete payroll practice file and documented correction request.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Calculations reconcile to the supplied records, with units and dates labeled.
  • Assumptions and missing information are visible, including the changed scenario.
  • The recommendation follows the evidence and explains an important limitation.
  • The six lesson outputs form a usable handoff that another learner can check.

The idea in everyday life

Pine C was accidentally paid using 40 rather than 42 hours. Original gross $800, supplied withholding $80 and benefits $40 gave net $680. Correct amounts are gross $860, supplied withholding $86 and benefits $40. Employer-only practice rate is 8%.

The idea

Preserve what happened, calculate the difference and route it to the person authorized to correct payroll and filings.

Follow along

Prepare a payroll correction packet — worked practice

Preserve what happened, calculate the difference and route it to the person authorized to correct payroll and filings.

Pine C was accidentally paid using 40 rather than 42 hours. Original gross $800, supplied withholding $80 and benefits $40 gave net $680. Correct amounts are gross $860, supplied withholding $86 and benefits $40. Employer-only practice rate is 8%.

  1. 1. Compare amounts

Compute corrected net and difference from $680.

You should see: Correct net $734; additional net $54.

Gross and net differences are not identical.

  2. 2. Compute other changes

Subtract old from new gross, withholding and employer cost.

You should see: Gross +$60; withholding +$6; employer-only cost +$4.80.

    The correction has multiple components.

  3. 3. Write evidence

Record worker C, original and corrected hours, approval and pay period.

You should see: The packet explains the source and effect of the error.

A reviewer needs facts, not an unexplained replacement.

  4. 4. Route and assemble

Add all six outputs and a request for authorized review of payment and any filings.

You should see: A complete practice payroll file with a correction request.

Real corrections and deadlines depend on the facts; do not file a mock form.

Now change one thing

Original net is 450 and correct net is 495. Enter the additional net amount due in the mock case.

Your work

What to finish

A complete payroll practice file and documented correction request.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Treating a paper correction as proof wages or tax filings were corrected.

How can I tell I understand it?

Explain your calculation or classification and reproduce the changed case without copying the worked result.
