See this course’s project requirements

A fictional payroll file with checked time, gross and net pay, employer cost, reconciliation and a correction packet.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • An approved mock time register.
  • A checked gross-pay register. A gross-to-net register with separate deduction totals.
  • An employer-cost estimate with clearly labeled assumptions.
  • A reconciled payroll handoff with an error log.
  • A complete payroll practice file and documented correction request.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Calculations reconcile to the supplied records, with units and dates labeled.
  • Assumptions and missing information are visible, including the changed scenario.
  • The recommendation follows the evidence and explains an important limitation.
  • The six lesson outputs form a usable handoff that another learner can check.

The idea in everyday life

Pine worker payments are $1764; employee withholding $206; benefit deductions $90; employer-only cost $164.80. A draft handoff mistakenly lists withholding as $260. Do not transmit payments; review paper records only.

The idea

A correct worker total is only part of a complete payroll handoff. Reconcile every destination before release.

Reconcile the payroll handoff — worked practice

A correct worker total is only part of a complete payroll handoff. Reconcile every destination before release.

Pine worker payments are $1764; employee withholding $206; benefit deductions $90; employer-only cost $164.80. A draft handoff mistakenly lists withholding as $260. Do not transmit payments; review paper records only.

  1. 1. Compare source totals

Compare $260 draft withholding with the checked $206 register.

You should see: The draft overstates withholding by $54.

A control total identifies the discrepancy.

  2. 2. Correct the draft

Replace $260 with $206 and log the reason.

You should see: Corrected withholding equals the register.

    Preserve a traceable correction.

  3. 3. Add destinations

    Sum all four correct amounts.

You should see: The handoff total is $2224.80.

Every part of employer cost has a destination.

  4. 4. Assign review

Name preparer and separate fictional reviewer; leave release unsigned.

You should see: A ready-for-review mock packet, not an executed payroll.

Preparation and approval should remain distinguishable.

Now change one thing

A draft shows withholding 180; source register shows 150. Enter the overstatement dollars.
