The idea in everyday life

Final evidence: Alpha $440, delivery 10 days, acceptable sample, 80 points. Gamma $460, clarified 11 days, excellent sample, timing failure. Beta $420, 12 days, timing failure. Need remains 200 booklets within 10 days; cap $470. Jo recommends, Lee approves. No order has been placed.

The idea

A reviewer should be able to reconstruct your choice from the record.

Follow along

Write the recommendation — guided practice

Separate a supported recommendation from purchase authority.

Use a text editor, a free document editor, or paper. Start from the following fictional records; they reset this lesson even if your earlier answer differed. Final evidence: Alpha $440, delivery 10 days, acceptable sample, 80 points. Gamma $460, clarified 11 days, excellent sample, timing failure. Beta $420, 12 days, timing failure. Need remains 200 booklets within 10 days; cap $470. Jo recommends, Lee approves. No order has been placed.

  1. 1. State the decision

Write a recommendation conditional on Lee’s approval.

You should see: Recommend Alpha at $440 for 200 booklets.

A recommendation communicates analysis without pretending a purchase occurred.

  2. 2. Explain exclusions

Give the exact deadline reason for Beta and Gamma.

You should see: 12 and 11 days exceed the 10-day requirement.

A brief reason makes the decision reviewable.

  3. 3. Show the tradeoff

Compare Alpha’s acceptable sample with Gamma’s excellent sample.

You should see: Alpha meets essentials; higher sample quality does not cure late arrival.

The rationale acknowledges the alternative’s advantage.

  4. 4. List handoff facts

Include specification, total, delivery, evidence attachments and approval status.

You should see: Ready for Lee’s review; not ordered.

The next owner needs a complete decision packet.

Now change one thing

Cap is $470 and the recommendation is $440. Enter the unused amount under the cap.
