Study guide: Make Safe Sharing and Design Decisions
A fictional drawing is allowed only in a group, is stored only on the main device, and has sound-only instructions. Propose one permission-respecting recovery step and one access improvement.
Ideas to explain in your own words
- Information may be appropriate for one audience and not another. A maker can allow a work item to be shared with a group while keeping other information private. Check the specific permission and purpose. This lesson uses invented records; no real names, addresses or pictures are requested.
- A message may promote a product rather than provide neutral task instructions. A label such as advertisement identifies a promotion; attractive pictures do not prove its claims. Our supplied cards state their purpose. Identify that purpose before deciding whether the message answers the classroom question.
- A backup is an additional usable copy for recovery. If both copies are lost together, the plan may not help. This paper model states which location survives a fictional failure. A backup plan must also keep private work protected; do not share actual files to do the exercise.
- A design should help a person complete a task. The same control can create different barriers for different users. Our paper test states a need and asks for the matching change. Test the change against the task instead of adding decorations that do not address the barrier.
Useful vocabulary
- audience
- The people for whom information is intended.
- backup
- An additional usable copy for recovery.
- access need
- A requirement for someone to use a task or tool.
Watch your reasoning
- Permission to share one drawing does not permit sharing every file.
- An advertisement can contain true statements, but its label does not verify every promise.
- Do not invent recovery data: an unsaved screen or another name on failed storage does not establish a surviving copy.
- A larger picture does not solve a sound-only instruction problem.
A worked review example
Drawing allowed only in class group; proposed class-group share. Choose the sharing conclusion. The supported answer is Allowed with stated group. Share only the content and audience explicitly permitted by the supplied record. Permission to share one drawing does not permit sharing every file. The supplied facts, rather than an assumed real-world detail, determine this paper case. Compare the recorded action or value with the stated rule before choosing an answer. Instructions exist only as audio and the learner cannot hear them. Which change meets the stated need? The supported answer is Text directions. Choose an improvement directly linked to the supplied access need. A larger picture does not solve a sound-only instruction problem. A design should help a person complete a task.
Make a practice plan
- Draw or tell one computing idea from each of the four lessons. Give one example of using each idea.
- Use the example to explain one mistake to avoid.
- Try the unit review before opening the explanations.
- Try the new task on paper or say your answer. Then compare your steps with the example answer.
