Review: Evaluate a Civic Consultation
Audit sample reach, neutral wording, missing-response denominators, and explicit decision criteria.
Bring the unit skills together
Use these 4 new cases to check your reasoning. Choices are temporary and are not saved to an account, sent to staff or recorded as school grades. Download your current review choices before leaving or reloading.
The download contains your current choices and any checked feedback. Keep the separate transfer-task work in your own document; downloading its instructions does not mark it complete.
Use the skills in a new task
Original fictional consultation: question “Do you support fantastic art-and-music nights replacing dull quiet hours?” Invitations 120 listed members, responses 80, support 48, oppose 32; drop-in users omitted. Proposed paper rule: room-hours ≤6, seats ≥10, then highest voluntary support count. Art:6h,12 seats,18 supports; music:7h,16 seats,22; quiet workshop:4h,10 seats,16. Rewrite the question, calculate response and support rates plus invited-member support bounds, and apply the rule with a limitation.
Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.
- Separate neutral questions about art, music, and replacing quiet hours.
- Use 80/120 for response rate and 48/80 for respondent support.
- Give invited support bounds of 48 to 88 from forty missing opinions.
- Exclude music under the cap and select art over quiet workshop by support count.
- State nonresponse, coverage, and voluntary-support limitations.
Compare with a model response
Ask separately whether to add art, add music, and replace quiet hours, using neutral support/oppose/unsure wording. Response rate is 80/120≈66.7%; respondent support is 48/80=60%. With forty missing opinions, invited support is logically 48–88 of 120, not a population confidence interval. Music exceeds six hours; art and quiet qualify, and art’s eighteen recorded supports exceed sixteen. The rule therefore selects art in this exercise, while nonresponse, omitted drop-in users, and voluntary option support prevent an all-user preference claim.
A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
