Study guide: Movement metrics and model revisions
Calculate supplied performance-model measures and use evidence without judging bodies.
Ideas to explain in your own words
- A paper-route pace model relates distance to elapsed time. Average speed is total modeled distance divided by total elapsed time. It can summarize a route without showing every change along it.
- An accuracy fraction compares criterion-matching trials with all recorded trials. In this paper target model, a match means the drawn endpoint lies inside the supplied target. It is a recording rule, not a claim about someone’s physical ability.
- A feedback pattern can indicate a consistent model error or variable results. If every paper endpoint is right of the target, a directional adjustment is more relevant than a random change. Mixed left/right results do not show the same consistent offset.
- A mean signed offset averages direction as well as size. In a number-line model, positive is right and negative is left. Opposite offsets can cancel, so a mean of zero does not mean every result hit the target.
Useful vocabulary
- Rate units
- Distance divided by elapsed time gives distance per time.
- No ranking
- A larger model rate is not a diagnosis, safety judgment or body ranking.
- Denominator
- State the total trials; a match count alone is incomplete.
- Scope
- One fictional sample does not prove physical competence or transfer.
- Pattern
- Inspect direction and spread, not only an average.
- Comparison
- Keep target and criterion consistent before attributing a change.
- Signed mean
- Retain signs and show the sum before dividing.
- Spread
- A zero mean can hide opposite errors; inspect the individual values.
Watch your reasoning
- A larger model rate is not a diagnosis, safety judgment or body ranking.
- One fictional sample does not prove physical competence or transfer.
- Keep target and criterion consistent before attributing a change.
A worked review example
The separate worked case gives offset 1=3, offset 2=-3, offset 3=0. Add the three signed offsets and divide by 3. First identify the quantities and keep their units consistent. The calculation is (3+(-3)+(0))/3=0 grid units mean offset. Round to six decimal places where needed. That result answers this supplied planning question only. It does not establish what a real person did, diagnose a condition or prove physical skill. Compare the units with the question before accepting a number.
Make a practice plan
- Draw or explain the four methods using the supplied cases.
- Complete the practice questions before checking each explanation.
- Use the review to locate a specific missed step and revisit that lesson.
- Complete the transfer model; compare its evidence and constraints with the model response.
