Grade 6: Arts & music

Start with a unit whose prerequisites fit. Work through the lessons, use the study guide to review, and try the new cases before continuing.

  1. Unit 1 · 4 lessons

Negative Space, Proportion, Framing, and Iteration

Treat composition as a set of decisions you can test. Account for unmarked space, preserve a complete image’s ratio, choose framing from a narrative purpose and compare thumbnails against an explicit design criterion.

Before you begin: Calculate simple areas and proportions; identify a stated composition goal.

  2. Unit 2 · 4 lessons

Dotted Values, Pitch Distance, Retrograde, and Objectives

Move from labels to transformations and reasons. Calculate dotted durations, compare semitone positions, reverse an ordered movement motif and connect a fictional character’s goal and obstacle to a playable action.

Before you begin: Add fractions; follow ordered lists; distinguish a goal from an emotion word.
