Unit review questions
1. Size for item A. Table: A has Count 2/Size 5; B has Count 3/Size 6. Which value is requested?
Need a hint?
  • Locate the named row, then use the requested column label.
  • Do not read a nearby cell from a different row or column.
2. Code=021 item identifier. Classify the stated field.
Need a hint?
  • Use the field’s stated meaning before deciding whether arithmetic is meaningful.
  • Digits in a code do not make it a quantity.
3. Count=? for a new item. Key: ? means unknown. Interpret the field.
Need a hint?
  • Keep recorded zero and unknown separate when you interpret the table.
  • Never fill an unknown answer with zero just to make a table look complete.
4. Fictional choice summary: circles=7, squares=2, unknown=1. How many circle choices are recorded?
Need a hint?
  • Count one occurrence per row of the requested label and keep unknown labels separate.
  • Do not count the category heading as an additional record.

Use the skills in a new task

Build a pretend table with item codes 01,02,03 and counts 4,0,?. Explain which fields can be added and what the unknown prevents you from knowing.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Use the pretend details in the task and name the rule you followed.
  • Show the steps or point to the detail that helped you choose.
  • Say one mistake to avoid or one thing this example cannot tell us.
  • Check your answer against the task. Change a part if you can show why it needs fixing.
Compare with a model response

Item codes label objects and should not be added as quantities. Known counts sum to 4+0=4. The third count is unknown, so 4 is a known subtotal rather than the total count for all three items.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
