Unit review questions
1. Original excerpt A: Plan: argue for a comparison trial using the current five-bend result and the unanswered material question. Use excerpt A only. Which spoken structure fits the supplied purpose?
Need a hint?
  • Tell listeners the comparison criteria.
  • A list of slides is not necessarily a logical explanation.
2. Original excerpt B: Need: show recorded counts 4, 5, 6 and 5 side by side. Use excerpt B only. What job should the stated visual do?
Need a hint?
  • A measured comparison needs units.
  • A source locator is not a measurement chart.
3. Original excerpt C: Problem: chart labels cannot be read from the stated seating distance. Use excerpt C only. Which repair addresses the stated barrier?
Need a hint?
  • Color alone should not encode a distinction.
  • A transcript does not fix tiny visual labels by itself.
4. Original excerpt D: The speaker turns away from listeners and their words cannot be heard. Use excerpt D only. Which adjustment matches the stated listening problem?
Need a hint?
  • Pause after the key result.
  • Volume and pace are different problems.

Use the skills in a new task

Make a short complete response demonstrating the four skills in this unit. Create a brief paper presentation about a fictional model: explain components, then process; supplied observation is five bends in one trial. Make a diagram and read its essential information aloud. Add large high-contrast labels and a written summary. Rehearse with pauses and prepare a response about untested durability. Longer writing targets in optional extensions can be completed in a later session.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Identify the purpose, state a brief roadmap and organize the supplied points accordingly.
  • Use the listener’s stated need and choose a readable aid with appropriate labels, not merely decoration.
  • Match the explicit barrier to a concrete repair. Do not claim one support ensures access for every learner.
  • Identify the observed listening problem and practice the targeted adjustment with the supplied text.
Compare with a model response

Roadmap: parts, process, test limit. Diagram labels: Panel A—folded-paper hinge—Panel B. Spoken description: the paper strip joins the two cardboard panels; its crease guides their changing angle. Use large high-contrast labels and supply this same description as text. Written summary: one fictional trial recorded five bends, with no longer-duration result. Rehearsal plan: pause after naming the parts and before the trial limit. Honest answer: later durability was not tested here. This is a paper plan for a visual and delivery, not a claim that actual listeners have been tested.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
