Rehearse the delivery
Make the structure automatic enough that you can stay present with the room.
5 Public Speaking Tips to Speak with Confidence
From Toastmasters International. Watch here or open it on YouTube .
Choose one Toastmasters delivery tip and score only that behavior during a recorded rehearsal before trying to improve everything at once. What this lesson is really solving.
Rehearse aloud, standing or seated as you will present, with the real visuals and timer. Review one variable per pass: structure, clarity, time, voice, body, then technical setup. Do not chase a flawless script at the expense of responsive delivery.
Understand the idea before touching the steps.
Confidence is familiarity with recovery, not certainty that nothing will go wrong.
Follow these steps in order.
Take the action in each step; then use the deliverable below to prove the lesson is finished.
- 1
Rehearse aloud standing up with the actual time limit, transitions, and equipment.
- 2
Record one run and review pace, filler words, volume, posture, eye line, and rushed sections separately.
- 3
Memorize the opening, closing, key data, and transitions—not every sentence.
- 4
Practice one intentional pause after major points and one recovery from losing your place.
See the standard in context.
Devon's first recording runs 10:40 for an eight-minute slot. The review finds two repeated context sections and an unreadable demo. After cutting both, the third pass reaches 7:35 with purposeful pauses and 25 seconds reserved for transition.
Inspect before you move on.
- At least one rehearsal was recorded and timed end to end.
- Feedback names an observable behavior and its audience effect.
- The final run finishes below the hard limit without rushing the close.
Your deliverable
Three timed recordings and a focused correction list for the final rehearsal.
Watch for this
Silently rereading notes and mistaking recognition for speaking readiness.
Prove it—don’t just recognize it.
You can deliver within time and recover from an interruption without restarting.
Quick knowledge check
Answer from the lesson—not from confidence alone. Score at least 2 of 3 to unlock completion.
This curriculum-aligned check is scored automatically and stored with your account when signed in. It is an objective learning signal, but it has not yet been independently validated as a standardized assessment.
