Jr. NBA at Home: 100 Dribble Drill

From Jr. NBA. Watch here or open it on YouTube .

The primer emphasizes ball control; carry that protected final dribble into a slow layup rather than throwing the ball ahead of your body.
Before you begin

What this lesson is really solving.

Build footwork close to the basket without speed, then add one dribble and different approach angles. Use the backboard target, protect the ball, and practice both hands. Avoid crowded or uncontrolled contact practice without coaching.

Why this works

Understand the idea before touching the steps.

Finishing is solving angle, footwork, protection, and touch near the basket.

Do this

Follow these steps in order.

Take the action in each step; then use the deliverable below to prove the lesson is finished.

  1. 1

Learn right-side and left-side layup footwork slowly without the ball, then add the ball and backboard target.

  2. 2

Practice one-foot and controlled two-foot finishes appropriate to the approach angle.

  3. 3

Add inside-hand, outside-hand, and reverse finishes only after basic footwork is automatic.

  4. 4

Introduce light guided pressure and require a balanced landing with space awareness.

Worked example

See the standard in context.

From the right side, Taylor steps right-left and finishes with the right hand; from the left, left-right and left hand. Five makes at walking speed become five after one dribble. Misses are tagged as footwork, aim, force, or balance.

Quality check

Inspect before you move on.

  • The takeoff foot and finishing hand match the intended side pattern.
  • The ball is gathered securely before legal steps.
  • The drill stops before fatigue turns landings or collisions unsafe.
Make it real

Your deliverable

Twenty makes from each side using correct foot-hand coordination and a recorded make rate.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Jumping into defenders or landing off balance because the eyes stay on the ball.

You’re ready when

Prove it—don’t just recognize it.

You can finish from both sides using either the backboard or direct angle when appropriate.
