Review, revise, or close the relationship

Create a mentoring plan using the fictional case, with a way to review progress.
Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.
What to include
- State an observable goal, requested help, learner responsibilities, and outside-support roles.
- Compare two routes for relevant fit, availability, and safeguarding.
- Draft expectations for rhythm, communication, privacy, boundaries, and concerns.
- Prepare a time-bounded agenda, simulated action log, and checked feedback revision.
- Include continue/revise/close options and an explicit no-match/no-delivered-service boundary.
Review and revise
Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.
- Goal and fit: the learner owns an observable goal and chooses a route for relevant help and accountable support.
- Expectations: roles, timing, channels, privacy, boundaries, and concern routes are specific and marked proposed where unagreed.
- Learning cycle: the agenda, action note, and feedback revision show a concrete step and an observable check.
- Review and limits: continue/revise/close paths use evidence and clearly distinguish the course from an actual mentor match or WIOA service.

The idea in everyday life
Goals and availability change. A review gives both people a chance to decide whether the relationship still helps, needs a different rhythm, or should close. Ending is not automatically a failure. Your final project gathers the fictional preparation artifacts and defines a review process; it does not create a real match or substitute for a formal program’s requirements.
A healthy relationship can change shape, pause, or end while preserving learning and boundaries.
One step at a time.
Use the sample or information you have permission to use. Keep your work as you go. You can pause between steps.
- 1
Combine the purpose card, route comparison, proposed agreement, meeting agenda, and feedback revision. Identify what each artifact contributes to the learning goal and label the package simulated mentoring preparation.
- 2
Choose review criteria: whether useful meetings occur, whether feedback supports the goal, whether actions are completed, and whether boundaries remain respected. Use specific evidence rather than gratitude or obligation alone.
- 3
Draft three paths: continue with an agreed next goal, revise time or focus, or close through a respectful message and the program’s process. For safety concerns, prioritize the appropriate support route rather than requiring a final private meeting.
- 4
State the course boundary again: WIOA youth adult mentoring involves at least twelve months and other formal program requirements; a three-week course and fictional exchanges do not deliver it. Finish with a realistic optional next step, such as asking a trusted program about its mentoring process, without sending an invitation or message.
- 5
Optional 10-minute extension: change the fictional mentor’s availability from every other week to monthly. Revise the existing agenda and action rhythm, then decide whether to continue, adjust the goal, or close through the planned process.
See how it works.
Fictional practice case: Nia’s review notes show two revised project explanations and a clearer problem–action–result structure. The simulated meetings fit the learning goal, but the next month’s schedule would conflict with classes. Nia drafts a proposed change to monthly meetings or, if that cannot work, a closing note thanking the fictional mentor for specific feedback and preserving a final action list. If a safety concern had occurred, Nia would use the coordinator route instead. The final packet says no actual mentor was matched and no required duration of mentoring was delivered. The value is a usable structure for future, properly arranged relationships.
Did you cover these?
- Reuse all five earlier outputs.
- Define evidence-based review criteria and three possible paths.
- State that no real match or WIOA mentoring duration is supplied.
What to finish
A complete mentoring-preparation plan with review criteria and continue/revise/close drafts.
Watch for this
Continuing from obligation alone or presenting a short simulation as a delivered mentoring service.
How can I tell I understand it?
The final plan supports learning, respectful boundaries, and a clear review or exit.

Opened the 2024 guide and read mentor-role distinctions, multiple supports, shared expectations, feedback, and problem-solving sections. General principles are adapted to original age-inclusive scenarios; graduate enrollment, university services, or affiliation are not implied.
Access: The 2024 university guide is a free public PDF. Its graduate-school services are context-specific; this course uses only general mentoring principles and does not require university affiliation.
Reuse: The guide states educational-institution copying permission with citation. This course instead uses original age-inclusive goals, agreements, scenarios, and questions and does not reproduce its worksheets or logos.

Opened the fifth-edition interactive overview and read elements on screening for safety/fit, youth/caregiver preparation, relationship support, and exit. Only the public overview is required; the downloadable checklist requests personal details and is not required or submitted.
Access: The public overview is free without an account. Its optional checklist download requests personal information, and a physical edition is sold; neither is needed for this course.
Reuse: This specific MENTOR National — Elements of Effective Practice, fifth edition resource supports the cited lessons. Life Starter’s scenarios, calculations, scripts, and questions are original; no source worksheet, logo, or endorsement is reused. Free reading is not a general reuse license.
