Review: Context Makes Claims Checkable
Evaluate source purposes, geographic scope, constrained choices, and claim wording.
Bring the unit skills together
Use these 4 new cases to check your reasoning. Choices are temporary and are not saved to an account, sent to staff or recorded as school grades. Download your current review choices before leaving or reloading.
The download contains your current choices and any checked feedback. Keep the separate transfer-task work in your own document; downloading its instructions does not mark it complete.
Use the skills in a new task
Original fictional exhibit memo: promoter says “all artists support the biggest district exhibit.” Same-day Map A includes Rooms 1–2 with 4+6 rented spaces; Map B includes Rooms 1–3 with 4+6+5. One-project committee has five hours; installation needs five, signs four, catalog three; ranking installation, signs, catalog. Artist R’s letter says “I oppose this exhibit.” Write an evidence reply about biggest, geographic coverage, the committee’s choice and opportunity cost, and all artists.
Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.
- Ask for a defined size measure and comparison exhibits.
- Compare ten rented spaces within the shared rooms.
- Explain installation choice and signs as next-best feasible alternative.
- Use R’s letter as a counterexample to universal support.
- Avoid claiming rental totals establish attendance or artistic quality.
Compare with a model response
“Biggest” needs a measure and comparable exhibits. A and B both list ten rented spaces in Rooms 1–2; B’s total of fifteen includes a third room, so the larger number reflects broader coverage. Under the five-hour one-project constraint and ranking, installation is chosen and signs are the next-best feasible alternative forgone. R’s opposition challenges “all artists support”; rental space totals do not measure support, attendance, or quality.
A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
