Unit review questions
1. Calculate 266×36.
Need a hint?
  • Write the multiplier’s full tens value before generating its row.
  • A misplaced tens row can make a plausible-looking product ten times too small.
2. Calculate 864÷27.
Need a hint?
  • Track each partial quotient with its full value.
  • Check divisor times quotient rather than assuming a remainder-free layout is correct.
3. Calculate 7.29 + 0.8.
Need a hint?
  • Align decimal points, then add helpful trailing zeros.
  • Aligning rightmost digits alone can mix unequal place units.
4. Calculate 1.8 × 0.5.
Need a hint?
  • Check a quotient by multiplying it by the original divisor.
  • Scaling only one input of a division changes the quotient.

Use the skills in a new task

Find 324×23 and 672÷24, then explain how place value checks 1.2×0.4.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Draw or label the numbers or shape features the task gives you.
  • Say why each calculation or shape choice follows the ideas in this unit.
  • Check that your answer fits the story or drawing in the task.
Compare with a model response

324×23=6480+972=7452. 672÷24=28 because 24×28=672. Twelve tenths times four tenths gives forty-eight hundredths, or 0.48.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
