Review: Measure Volume with Layers and Composite Prisms
Use cubic units, convert matching measurement units, add volumes, and find missing prism heights.
Bring the unit skills together
Use these 4 new cases to check your reasoning. Choices are temporary and are not saved to an account, sent to staff or recorded as school grades. Download your current review choices before leaving or reloading.
The download contains your current choices and any checked feedback. Keep the separate transfer-task work in your own document; downloading its instructions does not mark it complete.
Use the skills in a new task
A base is 5 cm by 4 cm and has three full one-centimeter cube layers. Find volume, then a second non-overlapping 2×3×4 prism’s combined volume.
Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.
- Draw or label the numbers or shape features the task gives you.
- Say why each calculation or shape choice follows the ideas in this unit.
- Check that your answer fits the story or drawing in the task.
Compare with a model response
One layer has 20 cubes; three layers give 60 cubic cm. The second prism holds 24 cubic cm. Because the interiors do not overlap, combined volume is 84 cubic cm.
A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
