Unit review questions
1. A point is 6 units right and 8 units up from the origin. Which pair names it?
Need a hint?
  • Use x first and y second.
  • Coordinate order cannot generally be swapped.
2. Points A(6,4) and B(18,4) form a horizontal segment. What is its length?
Need a hint?
  • Find the shared coordinate before calculating.
  • An endpoint coordinate is not a segment length unless the other endpoint is zero.
3. On a graph x=minutes and y=meters, what does (6,24) mean?
Need a hint?
  • Read labels and units on both axes.
  • A supplied point does not establish an unstated continuous trend.
4. A 7-by-4 rectangle is a counterexample to which claim?
Need a hint?
  • Check the direction of the inclusion claim.
  • A true narrower-to-broader inclusion does not make its reverse true.

Use the skills in a new task

Plot A(2,3), B(7,3), and C(7,6). Give AB and BC and describe what x and y specify.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Draw or label the numbers or shape features the task gives you.
  • Say why each calculation or shape choice follows the ideas in this unit.
  • Check that your answer fits the story or drawing in the task.
Compare with a model response

AB is a five-unit horizontal segment and BC is a three-unit vertical segment. The first coordinate measures horizontal position from the origin and the second vertical position. The order matters.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
