Unit review questions
1. Use a split factor to find 7×8.
Need a hint?
  • The split parts must add back to the original factor.
  • Multiply both parts before combining their products.
2. Regroup to calculate 6×2×5.
Need a hint?
  • Keep all three factors in your rewritten calculation.
  • Regrouping changes parentheses, not the operations or factor values.
3. What is 7×1?
Need a hint?
  • Explain zero groups and one group with a model.
  • A zero factor gives zero, not the other factor.
4. 7 packs hold 7 cards each. After 5 cards are removed, how many remain?
Need a hint?
  • Label the product before the second operation.
  • A removal in the story is subtraction, not another multiplication factor.

Use the skills in a new task

Find 7×8 using 7×5 and 7×3, then calculate cards left after making seven packs of eight and giving away eleven cards.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Draw or label the numbers or shape features the task gives you.
  • Say why each calculation or shape choice follows the ideas in this unit.
  • Check that your answer fits the story or drawing in the task.
Compare with a model response

7×8=35+21=56. After eleven cards are given away, 56−11=45 remain. The decomposition calculates the product, while subtraction completes the second story change.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
