Review: Plants and fair comparisons
Read plant records and plan a comparison that supports a careful claim.

Use these 4 new cases to check your reasoning. Choices are temporary and are not saved to an account, sent to staff or recorded as school grades. Download your current review choices before leaving or reloading.
The download contains your current choices and any checked feedback. Keep the separate transfer-task work in your own document; downloading its instructions does not mark it complete.
Use the skills in a new task
Write a fictional plant-report note. Four same-kind seedlings start at 3 cm. Two with 5 hours of daily light finish at 6 and 5 cm; two with 2 hours finish at 4 and 5 cm. Water, soil, pot size, and one-week length are alike. Identify the comparison, calculate each growth, describe the variation, and propose a stronger next paper plan.
Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.
- Name daily light time as the changed condition and height growth as the outcome.
- Calculate growths 3 and 2 cm versus 1 and 2 cm.
- Notice the shared 2 cm growth and avoid an all-plants claim.
- Propose more seedlings per group while keeping the other conditions alike.
Compare with a model response
The changed condition is daily light time; the outcome is one-week height growth. The 5-hour seedlings grow 3 and 2 cm, and the 2-hour seedlings grow 1 and 2 cm. One in each group grows 2 cm. These two longer-light seedlings have more total growth, but the record is small. A next paper plan uses more same-kind seedlings in each light group and holds water, starting size, soil, pots, and time alike.
A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
