Review: Vowel Teams, R-Controlled Sounds and Compounds
Apply distinguish two oo patterns, read an r-controlled vowel, read a diphthong spelling, split a compound word using supplied texts and original responses.
Bring the unit skills together
Use these 4 new cases to check your reasoning. Choices are temporary and are not saved to an account, sent to staff or recorded as school grades. Download your current review choices before leaving or reloading.
The download contains your current choices and any checked feedback. Keep the separate transfer-task work in your own document; downloading its instructions does not mark it complete.
Use the skills in a new task
Make a short complete response demonstrating the four skills in this unit. Decode this original sentence: In moonlight, I put my raincoat in the car and point at a cloud. Identify oo, the compound moon + light, ar, oi and ou. Write a new sentence contrasting food and foot. Longer writing targets in optional extensions can be completed in a later session.
Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.
- Read the target aloud with an adult if needed. Compare its vowel sound to moon and book, not its spelling alone.
- Underline the vowel-r part and blend it with surrounding consonants. Read the word in the sentence to confirm meaning.
- Locate the stated target’s vowel spelling, pronounce the word and identify which letter pair is present.
- Find two complete familiar words inside the target. Read each and join them into the compound.
Compare with a model response
In moonlight, I put my raincoat in the car and point at a cloud. Moon has the long oo sound; moonlight joins moon and light. Raincoat joins rain and coat. Car contains ar. Point uses oi and cloud uses ou for moving vowel sounds. Food and foot share oo spelling but have different vowel sounds: I carry food on foot.
A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
