Review: Practice Bounded Reading and Writing Decisions

A useful final practice combines grammar with evidence from a short supplied situation. Preserve facts, constraints and communication purpose; a polished sentence is insufficient if it changes the record or invents information.

Unit review questions
1. Original fictional planning card: one speaker yo; day sábado; planned activity caminar; place la sala. Which Spanish sentence preserves all four facts using the supplied ir-a pattern?
Need a hint?
  • Write each supplied field separately, then combine the day phrase with yo’s voy a construction and the action infinitive.
  • These are fictional language plans, not commitments to travel or perform a task.
2. Original mini-dialogue: “A: ¿Te gusta leer? B: Sí, me gusta leer.” Glosses: dónde=where; cuándo=when; empieza=starts; cuántos=how many; necesito=need; repetir=repeat; claro=sure; fuiste=went; termina=ends. The requested response concerns whether reading is liked. Which offered B reply preserves the supplied dialogue?
Need a hint?
  • Read speaker A’s question and the stated answer target.
  • All voices are original fictional text.
3. Fictional unsent message brief: greet; respectfully ask one recipient to confirm room 6 for sábado; thank them. Choose the draft preserving the exact room/day and request. Confirmar=confirm; para=for. No message will be sent.
Need a hint?
  • List the supplied room and day, then use the given respectful puede confirmar question.
  • This activity produces text only; nobody must contact an organization or provide an email address.
4. Original evidence text: “La puerta está cerrada ahora.” Glosses: llegó=arrived; de la tarde=in the afternoon; el mismo día=the same day; mesas=tables; sillas=chairs; fue=went; empieza=starts; libros=books; cerrada=closed; ahora=now; ayer=yesterday; escribí=wrote; notas=notes; reunión=meeting. Which offered claim is actually supported without adding unstated information?
Need a hint?
  • Underline the printed words needed for the offered claim.
  • A plausible inference is not automatically explicit evidence.

Use the skills in a new task

Create a four-part Spanish practice sheet from the following supplied situations. 1. Original fictional planning card: one speaker yo; day lunes; planned activity bailar; place el parque. Which Spanish sentence preserves all four facts using the supplied ir-a pattern? Candidate answers: (A) El lunes vamos a bailar en el parque. (B) El lunes voy a bailar en el parque. (C) El lunes voy a leer en el parque. (D) El martes voy a bailar en el parque. 2. Original mini-dialogue: “A: ¿A qué hora termina? B: A las cinco.” Glosses: dónde=where; cuándo=when; empieza=starts; cuántos=how many; necesito=need; repetir=repeat; claro=sure; fuiste=went; termina=ends. The requested response concerns the finishing time. Which offered B reply preserves the supplied dialogue? Candidate answers: (A) A las cinco. (B) El lunes. (C) Está a la derecha. (D) Me llamo Nora. 3. Fictional unsent message brief: greet; respectfully ask one recipient to confirm room 8 for jueves; thank them. Choose the draft preserving the exact room/day and request. Confirmar=confirm; para=for. No message will be sent. Candidate answers: (A) Hola. La sala 8 ya está confirmada para el jueves. Gracias. (B) Hola. ¿Puede confirmar la sala 8 para el jueves, por favor? Gracias. (C) Hola. ¿Puede confirmar la sala 8 para el lunes, por favor? Gracias. (D) Hola. ¿Puede confirmar la sala 9 para el jueves, por favor? Gracias. 4. Original evidence text: “Hay una reunión el viernes.” Glosses: llegó=arrived; de la tarde=in the afternoon; el mismo día=the same day; mesas=tables; sillas=chairs; fue=went; empieza=starts; libros=books; cerrada=closed; ahora=now; ayer=yesterday; escribí=wrote; notas=notes; reunión=meeting. Which offered claim is actually supported without adding unstated information? Candidate answers: (A) A Friday meeting is stated. (B) Every invited person will attend. (C) The meeting already succeeded. (D) The meeting happens every day.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Use the exact supplied situation and speaker rather than personal details.
  • Show the relevant word ending, evidence phrase, time cue or meaning distinction.
  • Write all four requested results with accents and punctuation.
  • Explain one rejected alternative and check that meaning remains faithful to the input.
Compare with a model response

1. El lunes voy a bailar en el parque. The card fixes day lunes, subject yo, activity bailar and place el parque. Yo selects voy; add a plus the unchanged infinitive. The resulting El lunes voy a bailar en el parque. preserves every field, unlike a revision that changes day, activity or speaker number. 2. A las cinco. Speaker A requests the finishing time. The original B reply A las cinco. addresses that request with the supplied information/function. The competing replies belong to other questions rather than preserve this dialogue’s meaning. 3. Hola. ¿Puede confirmar la sala 8 para el jueves, por favor? Gracias. The brief requests confirmation; it does not state that confirmation already exists. Keep room 8 and jueves, use puede for the assigned singular respectful address, and retain greeting/thanks. The selected draft satisfies those facts without inventing an outside response. 4. A Friday meeting is stated. Hay and el viernes announce the supplied meeting; attendance and success require additional evidence. The rejected claims add or alter facts beyond the supplied words.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
