Review: Express Possession, Near Reference and Preferences

Possessives and demonstratives describe whose object or which nearby referent is meant. Gustar organizes a preference around the thing liked, so its verb number follows that grammatical subject rather than the person experiencing the preference.

Unit review questions
1. The intended owner cue is your, tú-style. Complete “___ cuadernos” using the correct short possessive for the supplied noun.
Need a hint?
  • Read the owner cue and count whether the supplied possessed noun is singular or plural.
  • Tú with an accent names the subject you; tu without it means your.
2. The object is near the speaker. The supplied noun is manos, labeled feminine plural. Complete “___ manos” with the matching near demonstrative.
Need a hint?
  • Read the supplied nearby referent and its explicit gender/number label.
  • Proximity distinctions depend on a conversational situation; this task explicitly fixes near the speaker.
3. Complete the original preference “Me ___ las canciones”. Choose only the gustar form agreeing with the supplied liked noun group.
Need a hint?
  • Locate the noun group after the gustar blank.
  • Do not use gusto merely because the English sentence begins I like.
4. The supplied fictional preference is for the single activity caminar. Which complete sentence expresses “I like doing this activity” using the taught gustar-plus-infinitive pattern?
Need a hint?
  • Use Me gusta plus the supplied activity infinitive.
  • Do not use Me gusto leo to imitate English word order.

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Use the exact supplied situation and speaker rather than personal details.
  • Show the relevant word ending, evidence phrase, time cue or meaning distinction.
  • Write all four requested results with accents and punctuation.
  • Explain one rejected alternative and check that meaning remains faithful to the input.
Compare with a model response

1. tu. The owner cue is your, tú-style, and mapa is singular. The matching possessive is tu. Number follows the possessed noun; gender does not change these four forms. 2. esta. The supplied label feminine singular selects esta. The complete phrase is esta puerta. All four candidate forms express this near-reference family, but only one agrees with this noun. 3. gustan. los juegos is the grammatical subject of this construction and is plural. Therefore use gustan: Me gustan los juegos. Me identifies the experiencer and does not force a first-person gusto form. 4. Me gusta cocinar. The liked subject is one infinitive activity, cocinar. Keep it infinitival after singular gusta: Me gusta cocinar. The altered activity changes the supplied preference even if its grammar resembles the correct pattern.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
