Learn the idea
A model output and the rule for acting on it are distinct. A decision policy can include thresholds, human review, abstention and appeal. A numerical score is not a guaranteed probability unless its meaning is established. Our fictional policy states the actions directly.
Contract: a valid score is a real number from 0 to 1 inclusive; reject anything outside that contract before using thresholds. For valid scores, score≥0.8 requires human review for action; 0.4≤score<0.8 holds for more evidence; score<0.4 does not act. A score is a supplied model output, not proof of a real-world result.
Use score 0.92: it is within [0,1], and 0.92≥0.8, so request human review. A score 1.3 is rejected first even though it exceeds 0.8. Show the validity check before the action band.
- Represent the supplied worked case with a labeled drawing, table or short trace.
- Apply the documented action policy rather than treating a score as an automatic real-world verdict.
- Explain why the worked answer fits and why one alternative does not.
- Try the new check and practice cases; revisit the stated rule if your evidence does not match.
See the method in action
The score contract accepts real numbers from 0 to 1 inclusive. Score 0.92 passes that check and is at least 0.8, so it requires human review for action. Score 0.55 is valid but falls in [0.4,0.8), so hold for more evidence. Score 1.3 and score −0.2 are outside [0,1]; reject them before comparing action thresholds. A valid score and its documented action still do not prove a real-world outcome or bypass review.

Helpful tips
- Apply the documented action policy rather than treating a score as an automatic real-world verdict.
- Model confidence is not permission to bypass a stated human review step.

Hold for more evidence
Contract: a valid score is a real number from 0 to 1 inclusive; reject anything outside that contract before using thresholds. For valid scores, score≥0.8 requires human review for action; 0.4≤score<0.8 holds for more evidence; score<0.4 does not act. In Score 0.6, the value is valid, so apply its stated threshold band. The resulting action is Hold for more evidence. A score does not independently authorize action or prove a real-world outcome.
Take it further
Changed fictional policy keeps the real score contract 0≤score≤1 but raises the review threshold to 0.9. Lower valid scores are held. Expected: 0.85 is held; 0.95 requires human review; 1.2 is rejected before applying thresholds.
