Unit review questions
1. Start at 100 and count forward three steps. Which numeral is the stopping point?
Need a hint?
  • Use a new box for each counting step.
  • Counting does not restart at one after ninety-nine.
2. Use tens and ones to find 67+8.
Need a hint?
  • An exchanged ten still represents ten original ones.
  • Do not keep ten ones in the ones column after also recording their new ten.
3. Find 26+60 by adding full tens.
Need a hint?
  • Read thirty as three tens, not three ones.
  • Adding full tens does not change the ones count.
4. Subtract full tens: 80−20.
Need a hint?
  • Five tens means fifty objects.
  • Do not report only the number of tens when the question asks for the whole amount.

Use the skills in a new task

Find 46+8 with a tens-and-ones drawing, then continue the numeral sequence 98,99,__ ,__ .

Work on paper or in your own document. Explain the choices you made.

  • Draw or label the numbers or shape features the task gives you.
  • Say why each calculation or shape choice follows the ideas in this unit.
  • Check that your answer fits the story or drawing in the task.
Compare with a model response

46+8 has four tens and fourteen ones. Exchange ten ones for a ten: five tens and four ones, or 54. The sequence continues 100,101.

A different response can also meet the criteria. Compare the evidence and reasoning, rather than copying the wording.
