Course handbook

Know the route before you begin.

This is the working brief for the full course: who it serves, what to prepare, what good work looks like, and the language you will use along the way.

Who this is for

Anyone agreeing to a subscription, gym, phone plan, service, financing, warranty, app, event, course, roommate arrangement, or other everyday commitment.

Prepare before lesson one
  • Choose a low-stakes sample agreement and collect every linked policy, price sheet, disclosure, order page, and confirmation.
  • Do not upload private contracts, signatures, account numbers, medical information, or another person's confidential terms.
  • Use qualified legal help when the agreement is high-value, unclear, one-sided, non-negotiable, or connected to an active dispute.
Your final project

Finish with proof you can use.

Create an agreement-review packet with parties and promises, complete cost, dates, renewal and cancellation, liability and dispute terms, warranty and privacy notes, questions, saved evidence, and a reasoned sign, negotiate, or stop choice.

Three operating principles

The rules behind the steps.

01

Read the whole agreement

The order page, hyperlinks, attachments, policies, and later confirmations can all contain controlling terms.

02

Translate terms into events

Who pays what, by when, for which result, under what condition, and how the relationship ends is easier to test than legal-sounding prose.

03

Do not invent cancellation rights

Some transactions have specific rights, but there is no universal three-day cancellation rule for every purchase.

Working vocabulary

Key terms worth knowing.

Auto-renewal
A term under which an agreement continues or renews unless cancellation occurs under specified timing and method.
Arbitration
A process in which a private decision-maker resolves a dispute instead of a court, subject to the agreement and law.
Warranty
A promise about a product or service and the remedy or conditions that apply if the promise is not met.
Indemnity
A provision that may require one party to cover specified losses, claims, or costs of another party.
