The idea in everyday life
Paper room map: low table at left, drawing area at right, doorway at center. Children are Ana, Bo, Cy and Dev. Pat covers the room; Jo supports the doorway under direction. No real children are involved.
A count checks quantity; name-to-face recognition checks who is actually present.
Plan sight, sound and transitions — supplied practice
A count checks quantity; name-to-face recognition checks who is actually present.
Paper room map: low table at left, drawing area at right, doorway at center. Children are Ana, Bo, Cy and Dev. Pat covers the room; Jo supports the doorway under direction. No real children are involved.
1. Step 1
Place the adult positions so the doorway and both areas are visible and accessible.
You should see: No area is deliberately hidden behind tall furniture.
2. Step 2
Write the before-move roster and count.
You should see: Ana, Bo, Cy, Dev: four identified children.
3. Step 3
Repeat name-to-face recognition at the destination rather than copy the old count.
You should see: The arrival roster must identify the same four children.
4. Step 4
State the response if Dev is missing from the arrival check.
You should see: Alert Pat immediately and follow the lead’s missing-child procedure; do not start the next activity.
What to finish
A labeled sight/access map and transition roster.
Watch for this
A distant camera or occasional count does not replace active supervision.
How can I tell I understand it?
Support each lesson-specific criterion with your supplied-case artifact: I checked sight and clear access.; I used names before and after transition.; I escalated an unaccounted-for child immediately.
