A garment-care packet with label interpretations, compatible load groups, a checked machine-use sequence and drying decisions for fictional garments.

What to include

  • Translate symbols and text into separate stage constraints.
  • Group six supplied garments with a reason for each route.
  • Match the fictional machine’s actual cycle and temperature options.
  • Write a model/product-specific sequence without inventing a dose.
  • Assign individual drying methods and a dry-before-storage step.
  • Correct the draft and retain unreadable-label and unperformed-outcome limits.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Method: applies the course-specific rules to the supplied cases with visible intermediate work.
  • Accuracy: results agree with the stated facts, units, boundaries and independent checks.
  • Reasoning: explains why the result follows and identifies a limitation or unresolved question.
  • Transfer: completes changed cases and revises the final project when a relevant assumption changes.

The idea in everyday life

Fictional garment cards: A blue lightweight cotton tee—machine wash at no more than 30°C, normal or gentle permitted, no bleach, tumble low; B navy lightweight shirt—machine wash at no more than 30°C, gentle only, no bleach, hang dry; C white heavy towel—machine wash at no more than 40°C, normal, no bleach, tumble low; D knit—hand wash cold only, no bleach, dry flat, no tumble; E new red tee—machine wash at no more than 30°C, normal or gentle, wash separately for color-risk instruction, no bleach, hang dry; F blazer—do not wash, professional-care label. These are supplied cards, not universal fabric rules. Fictional washer brief: Normal uses regular agitation; Gentle uses reduced agitation but is not approved here for hand-wash-only garments. Temperature choices are 20,30,40°C. The brief allows a combined A/B load at Gentle 30°C and a separate C load at Normal 40°C; loads must fit loosely within the supplied loading guide.

The idea

Cycle names and settings vary by machine. Match the garment requirements to the supplied owner’s instructions, not a name alone. A machine’s Gentle cycle is not automatically the same as hand washing. If no option meets the label, choose another permitted method or obtain appropriate information rather than improvising.

  1. 1. 1. Select

Match A/B to cycle and temperature options.

You should see: Gentle 30°C fits both supplied labels.

  2. 2. 2. Compare

Match C’s separate load without exceeding its temperature maximum.

You should see: Normal 40°C fits C’s card and brief.

  3. 3. 3. Reject

Check the proposed Gentle setting for D.

You should see: Not approved for D’s hand-wash-only instruction under this supplied brief.

  4. 4. 4. Qualify

Record the information needed on a different real machine.

You should see: Its own manual and the actual garments’ complete care labels.

Now change one thing

A/B’s machine offers only 40°C for its Gentle cycle. Enter compatible or incompatible under the supplied cards.

Your work

What to finish

A cycle/temperature decision table with an excluded hand-only item.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Settings and meanings vary by machine and garment. This exercise’s specified options cannot establish all other machines’ appropriate procedures.

How can I tell I understand it?

Reject a changed machine option that exceeds the garments’ maximum temperature.
