A cycling-readiness packet with fit and helmet checks, official road-rule questions, route hazards, visibility and a no-ride decision for unsafe conditions.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • Equipment fault and qualified-recheck record.
  • Helmet-fit interpretation and actual-product questions.
  • Direction/predictability and local-rule screen.
  • Intersection/door hazard map.
  • Visibility plan and final pause decision.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Equipment record treats failed brakes and unverified corrections as independent pause conditions.
  • Helmet interpretation checks position and both strap conditions against actual-product guidance.
  • Route analysis recognizes traffic direction, doors, crossings and local-rule questions.
  • Visibility and final review keep unresolved crossing conditions open even when equipment is corrected.

Before you begin

The idea in everyday life

Paper route cards: A passes immediately beside occupied parked cars; B crosses a driveway with limited sight; C uses a provided separated path with a controlled crossing and clear sight. Actual access and rules are not independently verified.

The idea

A visible path can still cross a moving vehicle or an opening door.

Follow along

Recognize intersection and door-zone risks — supplied practice

A visible path can still cross a moving vehicle or an opening door.

Paper route cards: A passes immediately beside occupied parked cars; B crosses a driveway with limited sight; C uses a provided separated path with a controlled crossing and clear sight. Actual access and rules are not independently verified.

  1. 1. Step 1

    Mark A’s opening-door hazard.

You should see: Occupants may open a door into the travel path.

  2. 2. Step 2

Mark B’s turning/backing and sight limitation.

You should see: A driver may emerge while visibility is restricted.

  3. 3. Step 3

Select C as the better supplied option, conditional on actual access and rules.

You should see: The scene supplies separation and a clearer controlled crossing.

  4. 4. Step 4

Add a pause if any essential hazard control is absent.

You should see: Do not enter a conflict point on an assumption that others will yield.

Now change one thing

C’s crossing signal is out of service and no safe alternative is supplied. Enter proceed or pause.

Your work

What to finish

A three-route conflict-hazard map.

Common mistake

Watch for this

No road riding, door-distance experiment or claim of verified local route safety is required.

How can I tell I understand it?

Support each lesson-specific criterion with your supplied-case artifact: I identified doors and turning/backing paths.; I selected conditionally from the supplied scenes.; I reassessed a missing control.
