Read a seed brief and lay out container spacing
See this course’s project requirements
A safe paper garden trial with plant requirements, container spacing, watering observations, a simple comparison and a revised growing plan.
Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.
What to include
- Match fictional variety requirements to supplied sites.
- Draw and explain a typical flowering plant’s parts.
- Lay out container centers with spacing and margins.
- Design a one-factor replicated paper comparison.
- Calculate growth and interpret moisture observations without diagnosis.
- Revise the plan from changed light evidence and retain trial limits.
Review and revise
Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.
- Method: applies the course-specific rules to the supplied cases with visible intermediate work.
- Accuracy: results agree with the stated facts, units, boundaries and independent checks.
- Reasoning: explains why the result follows and identifies a limitation or unresolved question.
- Transfer: completes changed cases and revises the final project when a relevant assumption changes.

The idea in everyday life
Fictional Leaf L packet: sow 0.5 cm deep; final plant centers 20 cm apart; minimum center-to-edge margin 10 cm; expected emergence 7–10 days under its stated conditions. Container usable rectangle is 60×40 cm, depth 25 cm. Draw x coordinates from 0 to 60 and y from 0 to 40; no seeds are purchased or planted.
A seed brief supplies variety-specific planting depth, spacing, timing and care. These are different measures: depth is vertical, while plant spacing describes distance between plants. On a paper layout, include edge margins so dividing area by a spacing number does not silently crowd plants. Germination windows are expected timing, not a promise that every seed emerges.

1. 1. Extract
Separate depth, spacing, margin and emergence timing.
You should see: 0.5 cm depth; 20 cm between centers; 10 cm edge margin; 7–10 day window.
2. 2. Place
Mark x centers with the required margins and spacing.
You should see: 10, 30 and 50 cm.
3. 3. Complete
Mark y centers and every paired position.
You should see: 10 and 30 cm; six center positions total.
4. 4. Check
Confirm the centers meet boundaries and do not use the sowing depth as spacing.
You should see: Nearest centers 20 cm apart, outer centers 10 cm from edges; 0.5 cm is vertical sowing depth.
What to finish
A six-position container diagram with depth and timing notes.
Watch for this
Timing depends on the variety and conditions. The supplied window is not a guarantee for every seed or every location.
How can I tell I understand it?
Resize the container and recount centers while preserving the supplied spacing rules.
