About 8 minutes · 2 reading + 6 practice and checks
Time includes reading, practice, and questions. Extra videos or further study are optional.
See this course’s project requirements

A pedestrian-safety route review identifying crossings, visibility, turning vehicles, transit access and a safer alternative from supplied scene cards.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • Moving-hazard and sight map.
  • Crossing-location and signal analysis.
  • Turning/backing/hidden-lane review.
  • Transit waiting/boarding/exit routine.
  • Final route comparison and changed-condition plan.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Scene map distinguishes moving, turning, backing and hidden-lane hazards.
  • Crossing decision checks location, visibility, signal phase and traffic independently.
  • Transit routine includes designated waiting, boarding and exit without chasing vehicles.
  • Route comparison excludes supplied unsafe shortcuts and updates changed detour times accurately.

Before you begin

The idea in everyday life

Route A: 8 minutes, blocked mid-block crossing. Route B: 12 minutes, continuous sidewalk, clear controlled crossing and designated transit stop. Route C: 10 minutes, vehicle-only shortcut. These are supplied scenes, not verified local routes.

The idea

An unresolved essential hazard is not canceled by saving a few minutes.

Follow along

Compare routes with safety constraints — supplied practice

An unresolved essential hazard is not canceled by saving a few minutes.

Route A: 8 minutes, blocked mid-block crossing. Route B: 12 minutes, continuous sidewalk, clear controlled crossing and designated transit stop. Route C: 10 minutes, vehicle-only shortcut. These are supplied scenes, not verified local routes.

  1. 1. Step 1

    Mark A’s crossing and C’s vehicle-only section as unresolved/excluded.

You should see: Each conflicts with the supplied pedestrian safety conditions.

  2. 2. Step 2

Select B as the better supplied route and calculate its extra time versus A.

You should see: 12−8 = 4 extra minutes.

  3. 3. Step 3

Add signal/movement/access checks before actual use.

You should see: The favorable card still does not guarantee live conditions.

  4. 4. Step 4

Attach a pause/alternative step for closures or changed conditions.

You should see: If a necessary control fails, reassess rather than rush through the hazard.

Now change one thing

B adds a 3-minute verified pedestrian detour. Enter its new time.

Your work

What to finish

A final pedestrian/transit route review with time and live-condition limits.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Desk-based scene literacy only. No road crossing or transit trip is required; actual local conditions, rules and appropriate access arrangements must be checked before travel.

How can I tell I understand it?

Support each lesson-specific criterion with your supplied-case artifact: I applied safety constraints before time.; I checked the four-minute difference.; I retained changed-condition and access checks.
