A fictional bookkeeping close packet with source documents, journal entries, ledgers, bank reconciliation, financial summaries and a short cash forecast. Assemble and revise the six lesson outputs into one clearly labeled fictional practice packet.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • Register all eight source documents with linked payments and unpaid balances.
  • Provide the chart of accounts, journal, ledgers and initial trial balance.
  • Reconcile bank and book cash with supported adjusting entries.
  • Separate simplified profit from cash and build the two-week forecast.
  • Assemble a balanced final position summary and a clear limitations note.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Accuracy: amounts, classifications and decisions agree with the supplied evidence and stated assumptions.
  • Reasoning: each important choice names the rule, observation or comparison that supports it.
  • Responsible scope: the packet protects information, respects authority limits and routes unresolved concerns appropriately.
  • Usability: a new reader can follow the ordered lesson outputs, identify ownership and see what is complete or still uncertain.

The idea in everyday life

The final packet brings the month’s evidence together so a reviewer can follow the records without reconstructing your reasoning. Mathematical agreement, source completeness and sensible classification all matter. This remains an introductory, simplified practice close. It excludes inventory consumption, depreciation, tax, payroll and other adjustments not supplied in the scenario, and cannot substitute for professional accounting review.

The idea

A close packet should explain every important balance and every unresolved limitation.

Try it

One step at a time.

Use the sample or information you have permission to use. Keep your work as you go. You can pause between steps.

  1. 1

Order the document register, account guide, journal and ledgers, bank reconciliation and cash forecast in one packet. Add an index linking summaries to the entries and original fictional evidence.

  2. 2

Add total assets and compare them with liabilities plus ending equity. Then separately add the adjusted trial-balance columns. Keep income and expense accounts visible there; its total is different from the balance-sheet total.

  3. 3

Audit document completeness, customer and supplier remaining balances, bank-side timing items and book-side adjustments. Resolve inconsistent amounts by returning to evidence instead of adding unexplained balancing entries.

  4. 4

Write a short close note with the month’s result, cash outlook and exercise limitations. Label the work fictional and record questions for a qualified reviewer before any analogous real organizational use.

Example

See how it works.

Fictional practice: Oak’s adjusted balances include Cash $1,010, Receivables $100, Supplies $80 and Equipment $200, totaling $1,390 in assets. Payables are $30. Owner Capital $1,000 plus the month’s simplified profit $360 gives ending equity of $1,360, so liabilities plus equity also total $1,390. The adjusted trial balance totals $1,495 on each side because income and expense accounts are still separately listed before closing entries. The packet includes D1–D8, the journal, reconciliation, profit summary and forecast. It states that formal closing entries and additional accounting adjustments are outside the supplied practice scope.

Check your work

Did you cover these?

  • Assets and liabilities-plus-equity both total $1,390.
  • Adjusted trial-balance sides both total $1,495.
  • The packet explains forecast risk and omitted advanced adjustments.

What to finish

A complete fictional month-end bookkeeping packet with a balanced position summary and limitations note.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Presenting a simplified practice close as audited financial statements or tax-ready records.

How can I tell I understand it?

You can demonstrate all three checks and explain the evidence behind your choices without consulting the worked example.
