Choose level-matched reference tracks and check arrangement, vocal focus, low end, dynamics, width, and depth.

Build balance and panning first, then use EQ, compression, ambience, automation, and effects to solve specific problems.

Check quietly, on headphones, small speakers, mono, and at breaks to reduce ear fatigue and room bias.

Export the mix to the mastering engineer’s specifications, then approve the master for distortion, edits, fades, metadata, and translation.

After three revisions with dated notes, a mastering engineer receives the mix without a brickwall limiter plus reference and metadata; the final WAV is checked against the approved master.
