See this course’s project requirements

An original 8–12-second three-stage SVG/CSS explanation with deliberate timing, readable title states, pause and reduced-motion alternatives, source and storyboard.

Keep your working files in your own notebook or software. Save a private description, checklist, and work link in My Proof.

What to include

  • Create a three-stage explanatory storyboard and original SVG.
  • Record actual duration/keyframe percentage times.
  • Keep geometry, labels and static text consistent.
  • Supply manual play/pause/static and reduced-motion rules.
  • Deliver fresh HTML with actual source/browser test evidence and limits.

Review and revise

Use these criteria to check your work and choose what to improve.

  • Meaning: stages serve a stated relationship.
  • Geometry/timing: coordinates and percentages agree.
  • Control: pause/static meaning work where actually tested.
  • Evidence: fresh artifact and separate source/interaction claims.

The idea in everyday life

This study reveals fixed-position elements through opacity instead of moving text around the page. That preserves the geometric coordinate relationships. Avoid rapid flash or decorative scale changes; the final meaning is already available in static text. Changes that affect layout can create unneeded reading disruption.

The idea

An animated property should support the intended relationship.

Follow along

Animate only meaningful properties — worked practice

An animated property should support the intended relationship.

Original CSS reveals B, C and edges at their fixed coordinates. A faulty variant moves B off-canvas while its label stays put, contradicting the vector point/label relationship. Another repeatedly flashes all text, which adds distraction rather than an explanatory step. A targeted revision keeps the point location stable and changes only visibility during its introduction.

  1. 1. 4.1 Animate

List every animated property in the supplied source. Explain why opacity carries stage introduction without changing the point coordinates.

You should see: The actual animated properties are identified.

  2. 2. 4.2 Animate

Create one restrained alternative reveal on a copy and keep text/labels stable. Avoid rapid flashing or large unnecessary travel.

You should see: The alternative stays bounded and informative.

  3. 3. 4.3 Animate

Compare the changed animation with the static geometry: point centers, edge endpoints and labels must still agree.

You should see: Geometry remains consistent.

  4. 4. 4.4 Animate

Remove one decorative motion that provides no new relationship. Record the specific reading/geometry problem the removal fixes.

You should see: A removed decoration has a named reason.

Now change one thing

Changed graphic animates a point’s cx from 240 to 300 while the connecting path endpoint stays x=240. Does point/path geometry remain synchronized? Answer yes or no.

Your work

What to finish

An animation-property audit and a targeted revision.

Common mistake

Watch for this

Animating everything simply because a property is available.

How can I tell I understand it?

You can connect a retained animation to a particular explanatory stage.
