COMMON ROOM • PRACTICE ISSUE
Make something this month
A fictional community newsletter. All dates and names below are practice details.

Open studio
On Saturday, October 17, Common Room opens its tables from 1: 00 to 3: 00 p.m. Bring a sketch, a story idea or simply your curiosity. Paper and pencils are available. No experience is required. This practice event is free.
The first fifteen minutes are a quiet introduction to the space. After that, participants can work independently or join a small drawing prompt. A host can describe the room layout and help find a comfortable seat.

What to expect
A short welcome explains the available materials and the shared-table routine. People may step out and return. You do not have to present your work. At the end, a five-minute cleanup returns borrowed materials to labeled trays.

Two ways to join in
The quiet table is for independent sketching and writing. The conversation table uses a shared prompt: invent an object that helps an imaginary traveler. Choose either table and change seats whenever you need.
The host will show one simple example before the prompt begins. You can respond with words, shapes or a rough drawing. The aim is to try an idea, not finish a polished portfolio piece.

A small project to try
Fold a sheet of scrap paper in half and sketch the front and back of a fictional postcard. Add a greeting in your own words and leave room for an invented address. Keep real addresses out of your practice version.
Ask yourself whether the greeting is easy to find. If it competes with the drawing, make one element smaller or move it to give the other more room. Save your first draft so you can compare the change.

Before you arrive
The practice location has a step-free entrance and a quieter side table. Contact details are intentionally omitted because this is a fictional publication. Add a real verified contact only if you later create an actual event issue with permission.
